Weapons Procedure
No functional props or weapons are allowed at LIBCON West.
Simulated or costume props or weapons are allowed as a part of your costume, and are subject to approval by LIBCON West staff and in compliance with the following:
- All costume props must conform to state and federal law.
- Projectile costume props and weapons must be rendered inoperable.
- Functional (real) arrows must have their tips removed.
- Edged weapons must be blunted (not sharp). Weapons with a cutting edge must be tied to your costume in such a way that they can’t be drawn.
- Please be aware of your surroundings. LIBCON West can get quite crowded, so please check the area before drawing your weapon.
Security staff may stop you and ask to inspect your weapon. Staff will tag your weapon if it meets the above criteria.
If you do not want to have your costume weapons inspected or tagged, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your costume weapons.
Cosplay Is Not Consent
Whether you are creating a costume that is sexy, elaborate, colorful, or all of the above - cosplay is designed to attract attention. It’s meant to celebrate being a fan by making the fictional seem fantastically real. Attention, though, does not grant consent to act inappropriately.
Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. “Harassment” includes using profane and/or obscene language, directing verbal or physical threats toward another person, and engaging in behavior with the sole intent of annoying another person. Voyeurism or peeping, exhibitionism or flashing, lewd or lascivious acts are also unacceptable. Engaging in these behaviors will result in immediate expulsion from LIBCON West and the Glendale Public Library.
This policy is in accordance with the City of Glendale Community Services Department's Code of Conduct(PDF, 363KB).
